Mineral fibre vs metal tile ceilings: which suits your fit-out?

Choosing between mineral fibre and metal tile ceilings is one of the first decisions on a commercial fit-out. Both sit in a suspended grid, but they behave very differently in use.

Mineral fibre tiles

Still the workhorse for offices and education. They are cost-effective, available in a wide range of acoustic ratings, and easy to replace after maintenance. Edge details (square, tegular, microlook) change how refined the ceiling reads from floor level.

Metal tile and clip-in systems

Metal tiles suit premium offices, transport hubs, and some healthcare or hygiene-led spaces. They clean well, look sharper, and can hide services more neatly — but budget and lead times are higher, and access strategies need planning.

What we recommend on survey

  • Standard commercial offices: acoustic mineral fibre on a quality grid
  • Reception or boardroom zones: tegular or metal for a cleaner sightline
  • Clinical or wash-down areas: hygiene-rated or metal systems as specified

Erimus Interiors installs both families of system across the North East and Yorkshire. Send drawings or request a free site visit and we will recommend a build-up that matches budget and performance.
